NF P 92-501 Radiant Test Device
Compliance
NF P 92-501
The Radiant Test Device, in accordance with NF P 92-501, is designed to measure the reaction to fire behaviour of rigid materials or flexible materials thicker than 5mm when it is exposed to a 500w radiant heat source and ignition flame.
Stainless steel test chamber with a 25mm insulating non-combustible inner core, equipped with a transparent observation window.
Stainless steel tubular air inlet unit, equipped with a filter to shield the chamber from contaminants.
45 degree test stand, equipped with a stainless steel indicator scale to calculate the flame spread distance.
France original Epiradiator heat radiation source, power rated at 500W, which radiant surface is made of a translucent vitreous fused silica disk of 100 mm diameter.
Power controller to control the radiation output and adjust the radiation flux of the Epiradiator.
Panel display of the operating power value of the Epiradiator, eliminating frequent calibration procedures.
Upper and lower stainless steel burners for ignition of volatile combustible gases.
Precise needle valve to control the flame height of the upper and lower burners, equipped with a flame height gauge.
Ignition device for convenient ignition of upper and lower burners prior to testing.
Standard copper disc calorimeter for calibration of the Epiradiator.
The copper disc calorimeter is 30mm in diameter and 5mm in thick which is oxygen-free copper made and the copper disc is set in a refractory plate, the surface of the copper disc is coated with black paint with an absorption rate of 0.96; the back of the disc is soldered with a 0.5mm diameter type K thermocouple for temperature measurement.
Provides support stand for the copper disc calorimeter to be positioned on the Epiradiator during the calibration, the copper disc calorimeter is coaxial with the Epiradiator and 30mm apart on the support stand.
Test data for NF P 92-501: raw flame index, average flame height index, longest flame index, combustion heat index, etc.
Radiant Test Device consists of
The French M Classification for Building Materials (NF P 92-507)
The “Reaction to Fire” tests classify the material into 5 categories from M0 to M4. The specific standard that is applicable depends on the intended use and defines test methods for all materials.
M0 - Non-flammable (Calorific Value ≤ 2.5 MJ/kg)
M1 - Non-flammable (Calorific Value > 2.5 MJ/kg)
M2 - Low flammability
M3 - Moderately flammable
M4 - High flammability
