Annual Maintenance for Flooring Radiant Panel

What is the Flooring Radiant Panel

The Flooring Radiant Panel is used for determining the critical radiant flux of horizontally-mounted floor covering systems, which are exposed to a flaming ignition source in a specific radiant heat environment.

The test specimen is placed in a horizontal position below a gas-flued radiant panel inclined at 30° where it is exposed to a defined heat flux. A pilot flame is applied to the hotter end of the specimen. During the test, any flame front which develops is noted and a record is made of the progression of the flame front horizontally along the length of the specimen in terms of the time it takes to spread to defined distances. Also, the smoke development during the test is recorded as the light transmission in the exhaust stack.

The following date will be reported by the Flooring Radiant Panel test:

  • Critical heat flux, CHF and/or HF-30, in kw/m2.

  • Flame spread distance, in mm.

  • Integral of smoke obscuration, in %xmin.

Standard Compliance

The Flooring Radiant Panel is widely used in different areas of flooring product reaction to fire performance evaluation & classification.

European

  • EN 13501-1

Fire classification of construction products and building elements - Part 1: Classification using data from reaction to fire tests

  • ISO 9239-1

Reaction to fire tests for floorings — Part 1: Determination of the burning behaviour using a radiant heat source

United State

  • ASTM E648

Standard Test Method for Critical Radiant Flux of Floor-Covering Systems Using a Radiant Heat Energy Source

  • NFPA 253

Standard Method of Test for Critical Radiant Flux of Floor Covering Systems Using a Radiant Heat Energy Source

Annual Maintenance for Flooring Radiant Panel

  • Equipment Cleansing

    a) Chamber window.

Clean the inside of the chamber window by soft cloths with water/solvent.

    b) Radiant panel.

Blow away the combustion attachments on the radiant panel by the compressed air. The soft brush can be used for stubborn particles.

    c) Thermocouple.

Blow away the combustion attachments on the thermocouples of the chamber and stack.

    d) Light measuring system.

Remove the dust stoppers on the front & back of the light measuring system, blow away the duct on the glass, and clean the glass by a soft cloth with water.

  • Cooling Water Supplements

Remove the black cover of the cooling unit.

Remove the top screw of the water tank.

    Run the cooling unit.

Observe the water level in the water tank, and refill the water if the water level is less than 90%.

Summary

The Flooring Radiant Panel offers a method for assessing the performance of flooring products. And it is widely used in worldwide. MOTIS provides an easy to use and maintain test device for it.
